A private members rifle & pistol club since 1900.

Membership Applications

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we are currently receiving, we regret to inform you that we are not accepting any new club membership applications at this time. We understand the enthusiasm and interest in becoming a member; however, we have had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the application process at this time.


We kindly ask you to keep an eye on our website for any updates regarding the reopening of the membership. We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter.

This website is full of information & guidance for our members and anyone who is interested in the sport of Target Shooting. The site contains all the information you need to become a member of the South Hants Rifle & Pistol club, one of the oldest Rifle and Pistol clubs in the district of Portsmouth.

About us

The Club is based in Portsmouth where it has its own indoor ranges at Hilsea. The club also uses the MoD Longmoor Range, Moody Down Range and Ash Range for larger calibre rifle shooting.  


The club has facilities for a wide range of target shooting including small-bore rifle, pistol calibre (gallery) rifles, muzzle loading pistols, action air, air rifle/pistol, centre fire rifle, muzzle loading and vintage cartridge firearmson. 


Safety is our most vital concern. Members are required to display the ability to use firearms safely and pass a probationary period of shooting under supervision.


The club has various equipment available to shooters free of charge. Club rifles are available which include 22lr, .38sp, and full-bore rifles. Any of our in house rifles are free to use for our members, probation or full.

Mission

To provide, promote, organise and develop target shooting to all members of the community to ensure they have equal opportunity to participate socially or at the highest competitive level. The club is recognised as a local body providing information, co-ordination, advice and sound management of the sport whilst promoting equity and good sportsmanship for all.

Portsmouth City Rifle Club.

With the recent influx of membership merging in from the former Portsmouth City Rifle Club, the club is now actively competing in local and national competitions including various leagues, postal competitions and open meetings, which include the British shooting championships at Bisley.
